How did you manage?

Dear Alexis,
How did you deal with your anxiety and depression last year, and with missing all the choir concerts and school work?

Dear Anonymous,
It wasn't easy at all. Every day I felt worse about myself and put myself down because 1) I wasn't who I used to be and 2) I was letting everyone down. Including; myself, my family, and my school. What helped me the most was getting medication for depression because I later found out that I was actually depressed. I also had to get a medicine to calm my nerves just to get through school. Counseling is great, too. Going to counseling, I felt so silly like I was too good to go to counseling but after every session, I felt ten times better. When you reach a spot like I was in, you have no other choice than to get help. Don't EVER be afraid to ask for help. As for missing school, I discussed it with my counselor when times got rough and she sent an email to my teachers to tell them what I was going through. If you're comfortable enough with talking to teachers about making up your work, do it. They are actually more reasonable than you think. The number one thing though is to make sure you are ok. And as far as your work, that can wait until you feel better.
