Dating, talking, or just friends?

Dear Alexis, How do I determine if we’re dating, talking, or just friends? -Anonymous Dear Anonymous,           If you’re confused on whether or not you are friends, talking, or dating then chances are you’re probably just friends. Is that true in all cases? No, because every relationship is different. A relationship has four steps, which are: friendship, dating, talking, boyfriend and girlfriend although most of the time it’s pretty obvious what stage you’re in. Before any relationship starts, you should have a solid friendship. Meet the person, go out on dates, and spend time with each other. Before you know it  you've  already moved from step one to step two but steps three and four are where it gets tricky. Step three, talking, can be confused with being just friends because in both steps you spend quite a lot of time together. “Talking” is the pre-boyfriend and girlfriend of relationships because you’re determin...

Prom Confusion

Dear Alexis, Should I (being a guy) ask the girl to prom or does she ask me? -Prom Boy Dear Prom Boy,           Most people dream of the day they go to prom but whether they are asked or if they are the askee is unknown. In most legends it is “proper” for the boy to ask the girl to prom, ask them to marry them, etc. but I cheer for change. The girl can ask the boy to prom, marriage, and anything along those lines. If you have your mind set on asking this girl to prom, go for it! I’m not implying that you should ask her because you’re the boy but more as you asking her because you want to. I don’t think that gender matters when it comes to asking someone to prom; YOU choose who you go to prom with. I hope all works out in finding a date. Have fun at prom!

Do I find a New Date to Prom?

Dear Alexis, The guy I’m planning to go to prom with won’t talk to me and is ignoring me at all costs. We have set plans to go to prom but lately he won’t talk to me. I think he forgot about our plans. Do I find a last minute date or hope he still goes with our plans?  -Anonymous  Dear Anonymous,  Prom dates are always a hassle and finding a prom date early is a good thing to do. If you and the guy you’re planning to go with already have set plans, then it doesn't make sense to find another date but it also doesn't make sense for him to ignore you. I don’t think you should find another date because you already have one; I do think you should call him and let him know that if he doesn't communicate with you soon, you’ll be finding another date to prom. Don’t stress about it too much, maybe he’s just caught up with school. Send him a text here and there, and then give him a little phone call. I’m sure he hasn't forgotten about...

How Do I Help My Cousin?

My cousin and I have always been close but lately she has been into partying and drugs. Do I tell her parents or do I confront her? -Anonymous  Dear Anonymous,          Since your cousin and you have always been close, it  shouldn't  be hard for you to sit down and tell her how you feel about the situation. You should talk to her and tell her that she has two choices. She can tell her parents herself in hope of getting better or you can give her a certain amount of time to stop her habit and come clean or else you’ll tell her parents for her. My advice to you is to eventually tell her parents, but give her the chance to tell her parents herself first. Any path you choose, her parents will find out about it and she’ll be put on the right track. Good luck and I hope she gets better soon!

What Do Single People Do On Valentine's Day?

Dear Alexis,       I will be single and alone for Valentine’s Day this year. What do single people do on Valentine’s Day? -Single on V-Day Dear Single on V-Day,       First of all, there is nothing wrong with being single on Valentine’s Day. When you’re single, you can spend time with your family, have a relaxing night by yourself, or get with other single friends and have a little get together. A cool thing to do would to have a ‘Single on Valentine’s Day’ party and invite all your friends who  aren't  looking forward to spending their night alone either. Another thing you can do is to go out and buy yourself chocolates or a gift that  you've  been wanting and just pamper yourself. Don’t think of your night as you being single and alone, but more of a relaxing night in.  The night will only be as fun as you make it!

What Do I Buy My Sister for Valentine's Day?

Dear Alexis,       My sister has just been through a hard break up. I want to buy her a Valentine’s Day gift but I’m not sure what I should buy. Any ideas? -Anonymous Dear Anonymous,       Break ups are hard for anyone and you being there for your sister is very responsible and nice for you to do. I would suggest a teddy bear and maybe her favorite candy. One of the best things about siblings is that you can even buy them a gag gift and they’ll love it because you both share the same humor. Mostly, the gift you buy her will be based on the things she likes personally. Just think back to things in the past she’s mentioned or something fun she would like. It  doesn't  necessarily have to be Valentine’s Day related, you could buy her the new Justin Bieber singing toothbrush she’s been wanting!  Keep in mind that she is your sister and she will  appreciate any gift you choose on buying for her.

Valentine's Day Switch Up!

Valentine’s Day to me is…         When interviewed questions about Valentine’s Day, many teenagers said that Valentine’s Day to them was all about love and a day for couples to spend time together but when a Junior from a local high school was asked what the holiday meant to her, she answered a little differently; “Valentine’s Day is not just a holiday for recognizing individuals in your life that you are romantically involved with, but really any person that you love and care about. The holiday should not just be for couples, but for everyone to have a chance to tell their loved ones that they care about them.” Many people feel as if the holiday is a commercial holiday geared towards women, while others feel as if the holiday is for both men and women. When a group of girls were interviewed and asked the question, “Do you think Valentine’s Day is aimed towards women or men more?” They responded with saying that the holiday is aimed more toward...

Valentine's Day questions!

Hey everyone! Valentine’s Day is right around the corner. For the next issue of Ask Alexis I thought it would be fun to switch things up.  Ask Alexis focuses on relationships and the heart while Valentine’s Day is all about relationships and YOUR heart. In the special issue of Ask Alexis I’ll be asking you the questions instead of you asking me! For example: Ladies, what are you expecting from your valentine? Guys, do you like to be given gifts on Valentine’s Day, too? Send me your responses!

Does he see me as a younger sibling or more?

Dear Alexis,           I know you must get a lot of these but I really need some boy advice. I really like this guy that I work with, but the thing is there is a good five years between us. Just to clear things up I am 18. The thing is though; I really think he could be the one for me. The timing however is the worst. We are at totally different stages in our lives and soon he'll be gone. I really don't want him to be gone though. I already feel so connected to him, you know? We're both friend zoned a lot for being 'too nice' and I've opened up to him about my most recent time being friend zoned. He said that I was cute and funny, along with a few other things...but does he just see me as a younger sister? I really want to know how he feels about me without being too obvious. I've just been friend zoned so much I don't think I could take it from him. What should I do? -Nice Girl Dear Nice Girl,       ...
