Dating, talking, or just friends?
Dear Alexis,
How do I determine if we’re dating, talking, or just
friends?

Dear Anonymous,
If you’re confused
on whether or not you are friends, talking, or dating then chances are you’re probably
just friends. Is that true in all cases? No, because every relationship is different.
A relationship has four steps, which are: friendship, dating, talking, boyfriend
and girlfriend although most of the time it’s pretty obvious what stage you’re
in. Before any relationship starts, you should have a solid friendship. Meet
the person, go out on dates, and spend time with each other. Before you know it you've already moved from step one to step two but steps three and four are
where it gets tricky. Step three, talking, can be confused with being just
friends because in both steps you spend quite a lot of time together. “Talking”
is the pre-boyfriend and girlfriend of relationships because you’re determining
if a relationship between you two will work out. In most cases “talking” alone
is considered to be a committed relationship because you’re committed to only
being flirty with that one person. I say most cases because in my case, that’s
true but in other cases people will be “talking” to multiple people in hope of
finding the one they are going to be in a committed relationship. Have a discussion
with your partner and figure out if you two are talking and are going to move
forward in your relationship with a commitment, then step four will be pretty
obvious. These steps are just building blocks to determining a committed relationship;
you don’t have to follow each one of these steps exactly how I explained it
because every relationship is unique. As long as you know the basics and what
you want from the relationship, you’ll have no problem getting to step four. I
advise not to stress over the stage you're in and just have fun. Good luck!
