How Do I Stop The Bullies?
Dear Alexis,
This girl at my school gets bullied all the time and most
people say she deserves it but I don’t think so. How do I get them to stop or
just help her?

Dear Anonymous,
Bullying is
a huge problem lately. What is a bully, anyway? A bully is someone who, most of
the time, has self-esteem issues or problems of their own at home. A bully can
seem very scary but usually they are the most sensitive people. A bully will
tease someone else to get their mind off of an issue of their own. Bullies can
be dangerous, so I advise you to be very cautious when dealing with a bully.
I applaud you
for wanting to help her out; it shows character. Unfortunately, you can’t
change someone’s mind in a matter of seconds, so getting people to stop
bullying her won’t be easy. You can talk to your friends about helping you stop
people from bullying her and see if they’d be willing to help you with your
mission. Whenever you see someone bully her, go up to them nicely and ask why
they are bullying her or just simply take her by the hand and pull her away
from the situation. Tell her that by her reacting to the bully’s mean ways she’s
actually giving the bully satisfaction and letting the bully know that they can
hurt her with their words. If she keeps up with ignoring the bullies and acts
like it doesn’t bother her, the bullies will eventually get tired of her not reacting
and will quit bullying her. Now, there is always the obvious option of telling
the principal or teachers about the bully and that will stop bullying at school
but unfortunately can result in bullying outside of school. My advice to you
would to take her under your wing and tell her about trying to ignore the bullies
and not let them get to her. If ignoring the bullies doesn’t seem to keep them
away, take the situation to the principals. My prayers go out to her. Good
luck!
