When will my love for her disappear?

Dear Alexis,
I broke up with my girlfriend of three years a while ago. When will my love for her go away?

Dear Anonymous,

Love is a powerful feeling and a great one at that. When you love someone full heartedly and truly love them, that love sticks around forever. You can try and push the love away and make yourself hate her, but that would just give you more pain. It is very possible to love more than one person and to be happy. Now, should you date both of those people at the same time; no but you should always keep one in your heart. I always ask myself, would it be better to love and to have lost or to hate and have lost? Either way, you’re going to be upset and you’re going to feel some type of emotion for your ex-girlfriend. The best advice I can give you is to not worry about when your love will “go away.” Would you want all the good memories to go away, too? Instead of worrying about when your love for her will vanish, worry about why you want them to go away so badly. From personal experience, it’s easier and better to accept the fact that they are gone but always keep them in your heart. Pushing them out of your life, head, AND heart can be too much for you to handle. Start appreciating the fact that you loved someone so much it hurt; love like that is hard to find.
